Welcome To Rhodes Farm
Welcome To Rhodes Farm
Rhodes Farm opened in early 1991 and was the first unit dedicated to the treatment of children with eating disorders.
The unit began life as the home of its medical director Dr Dee Dawson and she continued to live there with her family until 1994.
Today Rhodes Farm is the largest unit of its kind. It has places for 32 children, but retains the homeliness of a family house and has a home from home feeling. Children and their families will quickly appreciate that life at Rhodes Farm is more like spending a term at a small boarding school where children will make friends and continue to live a normal life whilst receiving treatment for their illness.
Unlike child and adolescent mental health units we only admit and treat children with eating disorders.
The children sleep in a variety of three bedded, twin and single rooms each individually decorated and they are encouraged to bring in photo’s and pictures, soft toys etc, to make their rooms their own.
We also have one large room called The Flat which has six beds, this is supervised throughout the night, and any child needing extra support or observation can sleep there.
There are two kitchens at Rhodes Farm, one for beginners, the Brown kitchen, where the children are closely monitored whilst eating, and for those who are progressing well and can eat unsupervised we have the Blue kitchen. The meals are planned by our Head Carer to provide a healthy, well balanced varied menu.
