Current
research indicates that some sort of family work, either
counselling or therapy is mandatory in the treatment
of children with eating disorders. We certainly see
it as a very important part of our work.
The therapists at Rhodes Farm are free to do their work
knowing that the childs eating is being taken
care of and that the family are being given sufficient
help and advice on food issues outside family therapy.
Whilst worries about food and target weights are recognised
as being important, they are dealt with by Dr Dawson
and the nursing team, so that valuable family therapy
time is not taken up with day to day issues about eating
and exercise.
We ask parents to attend family therapy every two weeks
or weekly, if everyone is agreed that more sessions
are necessary.
