Our nurses are all very skilled
and experienced when it comes to persuading our young
patients to eat. We very rarely have a child
who refuses to eat. The peer pressure and the skill of
the nurses combine to provide an atmosphere where the
children eat easily.
We count calories very accurately
to see that each child gains 1kg a week, not less, not
more. No child ever sits in our unit without
gaining weight. We consider our primary objective to be
restoring physically sick children to normal health. Whilst
we do not underestimate the role of therapy and family
work, we understand that without consistent and adequate
weight gain, all the therapy in the world will not help
our young patients. We are so confident in our ability
to feed even the worst cases that we do not charge Health
Authorities or PCTs if we fail to increase a childs
weight by 1kg a week.
We
are not content for our patients to simply eat
and gain weight, we are also interested in what
they eat.
